Many Missouri residents lose their lives in crashes that are caused by negligent or intoxicated drivers. This is also believed to have been the cause of a recent accident in Webster County. One man suffered fatal car accident injuries in the crash that occurred on U.S. 60.
A crash report that was prepared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that 67-year-old Mansfield woman rear-ended another vehicle while traveling on U.S. 60 on a recent Thursday afternoon. The impact caused the other car to roll over. The 68-year-old driver of the other car was ejected from his vehicle, and he was declared dead at the crash scene.
Officers reported that neither of the drivers wore their seat belts. The arresting officer said that the woman’s blood alcohol content was measured at .089 percent about two hours after the accident. She reportedly told the officer that she had set her vehicle on cruise control before the crash occurred. She was arrested and released while awaiting her next court appearance; however, she is not allowed to drive or indulge in alcohol or drugs during this time.
While this driver will likely have to face the consequences of her actions, the family of the man who died after suffering fatal car accident injuries will have to cope with the unexpected loss of a loved one. Along with the trauma comes the costs of end-of-life arrangements and loss of future income. The family may pursue financial relief by filing a wrongful death claim in a Missouri civil court. Upon proving negligence, the court will consider all documented claims for emotional and financial damages brought about by the accident.
