Car accidents: Cross-over crash leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Police, rescue workers and firefighters rushed to the scene of a fatal crash on a recent Tuesday morning. This was reportedly one of the many Missouri car accidents that involved a driver crossing into the lane of oncoming traffic. The incident occurred on Mo. 15, north of Memphis.

An accident report that was prepared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol notes that an 18-year-old driver was northbound on the highway. As he entered a curve in the road, he apparently lost control of the vehicle and veered into the southbound lane. He crossed the path of a pickup truck, and a collision could not be avoided.

The driver who crossed the center line was reportedly not restrained by a seat belt. He was killed on impact. The 21-year-old driver of the pickup truck survived the crash, but he suffered serious injuries. A helicopter rushed him to a hospital in a neighboring state where he is a resident.

The estate of the young Missouri man who lost his life in this crash may be held responsible for the serious injuries suffered by the other driver. Whenever deceased drivers are deemed responsible for car accidents, injured victims may pursue financial relief by filing personal injury claims against the estates of the deceased drivers. Any other party with an ownership interest in a vehicle operated by a negligent driver may be added as a defendant in related civil litigation. However, the court will not enter a monetary judgment before sufficient evidence of negligence has been submitted. Once financial liability is determined, the court will consider all documented financial losses and emotional damages sustained by the plaintiff.
