Cross-over car accidents can lead to serious injuries

Many vehicle accidents on Missouri roads result from drivers who fail to keep a proper lookout or drivers who are distracted. Most car accidents happen in the blink of an eye, and the consequences can last forever. Another common error by drivers is the failure to keep a safe following distance. This can jeopardize the driver’s chances of stopping in time when stationary or slowed down traffic is encountered.

Such fundamental errors might have been the cause of an accident in Pulaski County on a recent Wednesday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 72-year-old driver was southbound on Highway 133 when he unexpectedly had to swerve to avoid another car. He crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with a pickup truck, causing this vehicle to run off the roadway.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered injuries. The man who crossed the center line was reportedly seriously injured, and he was airlifted to a hospital. The other driver, a 50-year-old Crocker man, was transported to a medical facility by ambulance. He had reportedly suffered moderate injuries.

The expenses related to hospitalization after car accidents can be significant and may cause financial problems for the injured victim. If a Missouri resident suffers injuries in an accident that were caused by the negligence of another party, the victim may pursue financial relief by filing a personal injury claim in a civil court. Once negligence is established before the court, compensation might be awarded for documented losses such as medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of life enjoyment and more.
