A two-vehicle accident on June 13 has left three people injured. One of a series of car accidents to strike Missouri highways on that weekend, this accident was particularly serious. Police are still investigating the crash, but no charges have yet to be filed in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, a vehicle collided with a pickup truck that had stopped to make a left-hand turn. The driver of the first vehicle, a 19-year-old man, was taken to an out-of-state hospital as the accident occurred only two miles from the state border. The driver and passenger in the pickup truck, a 55-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were transported to an in-state hospital in nearby Joplin.
All three people involved in the accident had injuries described as severe. There has been no word as to their status as of this writing. Police have not speculated as to what other factors may have influenced the accident, including intoxication or speed. The 19-year-old is not in police custody according to reports.
While the details of this accident are sketchy, it is a truism that details about car accidents often require further investigation to fully flesh out. Should the Missouri police determine the 19-year-old driver was responsible for the accident, the occupants of the pickup truck may be able to seek compensation for damages from the young driver in the form of a personal injury suit. Any such suit would be dealt with separately from any criminal charges that might be filed, in a Missouri civil court.
