Missouri resident suffered serious personal injury in car wreck

When a passenger sustains injuries in a single car accident, he or she retains the right to claim compensation for medical expenses incurred. People are often hesitant to take legal action against a driver who may also be a friend or family member. This should not deter them, however, as medical costs resulting from a personal injury could result in financial hardship.

A Missouri woman recently suffered serious injuries in an accident that happened when the driver of the truck in which she travelled as a passenger lost control of the vehicle in a curve along HH Highway. Both the driver and his passenger were admitted to a local hospital, where it was reported that the driver’s injuries were not serious. Reports indicated that neither of them were wearing their safety belts.

The driver was allegedly under the influence at the time of the accident. He was arrested and is now facing various preliminary charges, including DWI, assault and causing an accident because he could not stay in a single lane. Authorities also charged him for the truck not having a front plate, being uninsured and not wearing a safety belt.

Missouri residents who have been injured in car accidents caused by the negligence of another party may want to gather all available information relating to their legal rights and options. When evidence proves that the driver was negligent or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, thereby causing or significantly contributing to the accident, victims may retain the right to file a personal injury claim in a court of law. Successful litigation may result in monetary damages granted to help victims cover medical expenses resulting from an accident.
