More vehicles added to the Takata air bag recall

Last week, Takata included additional makes and models on the list of vehicles with faulty air bags. According to the Associated Press, this brings the total number of vehicles recalled to approximately 24 million in the U.S.

Defective auto parts such as these air bags present a real danger to drivers and passengers. Currently, 11 deaths and 139 injuries have been attributed to faulty Takata air bags. In the case of the defective Takata air bags, the problem is the propellant in the air bag’s inflator. The propellant can degrade and lead to air bag ruptures.

The most recent recall includes vehicles by Honda, Acura, Ford, BMW, Daimler vans, Chrysler, Mazda, Audi and Volkswagen. Have you received an air bag recall notice from your vehicle’s manufacturer? If you are not sure whether your vehicle is part of the air bag recall, you can look it up here.

Replacement of the faulty air bag inflator is free. It is important to ensure that your vehicle receives this repair if it is part of the recall. Be sure to schedule the repair as soon as you receive the notice from your manufacturer.

If a defective air bag causes injuries to you or a family member, you can hold the manufacturer responsible for your losses. An experienced personal injury and product defect lawyer can explain your rights to you. You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost income and benefits, and pain and suffering. In wrongful death cases, you can seek additional compensation for the loss of your loved one.
