A 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life in a Missouri hospital. She suffered critical personal injury in a recent car accident on Highway 30. Her 3-month-old baby and the little girl’s father were also injured. Although the hospital provided no information about the baby’s condition, a family member reported her to be in stable condition. However, the mother is reportedly unresponsive and suffered brain trauma.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that a 24-year-old driver ran a red light at an intersection, and his car crashed into a southbound vehicle occupied by the two adults and the baby. The driver believed at fault suffered moderate injuries, and he was also hospitalized. MHP reported that this driver was suspected of being intoxicated. He was arrested and is facing DUI-related charges.
The injured victims of this accident will be entitled to pursue financial relief for medical expenses and other financial losses brought about by the apparent negligence of the other driver. With the young mother in an unresponsive condition, her family may choose to investigate their rights under Missouri laws. Regardless of whether she survives, it seems likely that help will be required for ongoing family support and child care.
If the mother survives, a personal injury may be filed in a civil court in pursuit of financial relief for medical expenses and other documented financial losses. However, if she passes away, her surviving family members will retain the right to file a wrongful death claim in a Missouri civil court. By establishing evidence of negligence before the court, monetary recovery may be awarded in accordance with applicable laws.
