One of many DUI car accidents claims life of Bixby woman

Any Missouri driver with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher is legally intoxicated. Causing car accidents when intoxicated cannot only land a driver behind bars, but it can also cause the deaths of others. One such a tragedy claimed the life of a 27-year-old Bixby woman on Nov. 4, and Missouri State Highway Patrol officers recently arrested the driver who allegedly caused her death.

An accident report indicates that a 56-year-old Steelville woman was driving north when she crossed into the southbound traffic lanes. She smashed head-on into the car of the driver from Bixby. This woman did not survive the crash. The northbound driver was transported to a hospital where patrol officers noticed that she showed signs of impairment.

Reportedly, the woman admitted to consuming alcohol, and chemical blood tests confirmed this. Her BAC was measured at .243 percent in the first test, and .219 percent about ninety minutes later. Officers arrested her and charged her with involuntary manslaughter.

The surviving family members of the young Missouri woman who lost her life in the crash may pursue recovery of damages they suffered by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. Following car accidents such as this one in which the driver deemed responsible admitted to driving after drinking, the admission and the criminal charges may benefit the civil claim if a conviction is obtained.
