Pedestrian accidents: Missouri woman hit crossing the street

Missouri laws require motorists to yield to cyclists and pedestrians. In spite of this, pedestrian accidents still frequently occur. When drivers are not cautious and do not pay attention to their surroundings, incidents like this are more likely to happen. One such accident recently occurred when a woman was struck by a vehicle on her way to work.

The pedestrian involved was crossing the street to her place of employment when she was struck by a minivan. The driver of the minivan told officials that she failed to see the victim because she was in the driver’s blind spot. The driver told police that when she finally saw the woman she accidentally hit the accelerator rather than the brake, causing her vehicle to hit the woman.

Police did not indicate the extent of the victim’s injuries; however, reports state that she is currently recovering. The entire incident was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. The video showed the driver stopping and attempting to help the woman after the collision. No citations or charges were issued to the driver.

When pedestrian accidents like this occur, victims have the right to file a personal injury claim in civil court. Should the claim prove successful, victims may then receive monetary damages to cover any medical bills or other expenses related to the accident. Any Missouri residents injured in similar accidents may want to consider meeting with an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss their situation. The attorney could then provide advice and guide them through litigation.
